ALICE CICOLINI

LOOKBOOK

Creating the series of images for Alice’s mainline lookbook was our first project together and the images were a way in for me to explore how the pieces feel infront of the camera, getting to know their “best sides” and how they interact and move on the body.

I was working on HAND. in parallel and, given Alice mostly designs rings, it felt as though there was a connection between exploring the character of the work and the character of the hand - as if the jewels were having their first portrait taken.

ALICE ON HER DESIGN INSPIRATION

I had used illustration in the past as a way of expressing a wider poetic context for my work, steering away from what I felt was the established language of more fashion-led photography. Although I had worked as a fashion curator for many years, I was inspired by designers whose work pushed at the artistic boundaries of what fashion could be and I wanted my own work to be steeped in meaning.

It became increasingly clear that as the brand moved into e-commerce and a global network of retail relationships, that I needed to explore ways to show how the pieces lived on the body, and what my vision was for how they could be worn together.

I started discussing with Agenda how his philosophy of contemplative, deep looking in photographic portraiture might connect with the language of established painterly portrait traditions. I find the thoughtful quietude of his work inspiring, and feel that it realizes in images the same approach that I take to my own work.
